March 25 The Greatest Songs of the FiftiesThe Greatest Songs of the FiftiesArtist: Barry Manilow (Usually ships in 24 hours)Click Here for more informationClive Davis's ear earns him more accolades than most of his talents' vocal chords. Now it's time to give it up for his enterprising instincts. The Greatest Songs of the Fifties arrives on the heels of another of the famous producer's backward-looking projects, the ubiquitous, uber-successful Great American Songbook series by Rod Stewart. The short story: same vibe, different era. With songs like "All I Have to Do Is Dream," "Venus," and "Unchained Melody" (first recorded in the '50s but best known for its '60s Righteous Brothers rendition), Manilow sidesteps the stuff that rocked the sock hops in favor of cheek-to-cheek selections--the better to remind longtime fans of his nostalgia-steeped '70s hits. Overall, the approach works, especially when the bona fide '50s legend Phyllis McGuire steps in to heat up the "Teach Me Tonight/Sincerely" medley, and Manilow swings across genres to lovingly tackle Dinah Washington's "What a Diff'rence a Day Made." Vocally, a warm haze covers these tracks; whether it's there to evoke fuzzier times or to mask a voice that's gone slightly south is unclear. What couldn't be more crystal, though, is Manilow and Davis's commitment to first-class, sophisticated record-making. --Tammy La GorceThe Greatest songs of the FiftiesListening to this music gave me a chance to relive my youth. I remember dancing to all these songs when I was in high school. Barry Manilow was true to the spirit of the songs, making the sound a wonderful trip down memory lane. The Greatest Songs of the Fifties ~ Barry ManilowI graduated high school in 1957 and I love Barry Manilow's music. I am a product of the 50s thus I loved the music but kind of missed the original artist.Barry Manilow "The Greatest Songs of the Fifties"This CD is fantastic! The 50 Greatest Love Songs reminds us what a great singer Presley was; coming from the heart with more feeling and passion than most could ever imagine, all 50 of these songs are classics of the last four decades. The double disc set includes all the up-tempo standards like the incredible "Suspicious Minds", "I just can't help believin'" and "Always On My Mind" plus the Dusty Springfield signature tune "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me". Also included are some of his older works from before and during the cinema years like "Good Luck Charm", "Love Me Tender" and "Old Shep". So no blue shoes, no sequinned jump suits, just the king singing about life, love and heartache. --Georgina CollinsVALENTINE'S DAY BELONGS TO ELVIS FANSThis CD is one of the most complete collection of Elvis ballads and loves songs available. While there have been other CDs made of his ballads, these are among his best! I like "A Fool Such As I," "The Wonder of You," and "Pocketful of rainbows." As other reviewers stated, the only out of place track is "Old Shep" (about a boy and his dog) which though very sad, just doesn't belong here. Still, I'd recommend this ballad CD because the collection is so complete. You could amass many other separate CDs and still not have all the great tracks recorded in one place here. It is a double CD - double the songs for the money. This a a perfect CD to give as a gift to that "certain someone" in your life. Enjoy ! I give this 5 stars ! Was this helpful to you?Love Songs By "The King"Elvis Presley is known as "The King" because no one can sing a song like he can. Whether it is an upbeat rock-n-roll song or a smoothe love song. This CD has many love songs we've all heard before, but also quite a few that are not on the CD's that have been released since his death. If you are in a car while listening to this 2 disc set, you'll wish the ride lasts a little longer just to hear all the songs. Two of my favorite's that you don't hear as often as some of the standard Elvis love songs are, "You Don't Know Me" and Let It Be Me". If you are a big Elvis fan or just as casual one, you'll enjoy this 2 disc set. Comprehensive and refreshing...that is the best way to describe this CD set. I just can't stop listening to it. Not only does it include some of his classic oldies, but it also includes many songs from the later years that are not as easy to find. In addition, a few of the songs are from live performances and, in my opinion, that just increases the value of this set. Now that I own it, I would have paid a lot more for it if I had to! It's a must-have. more... mp3 music downloads 30 Greatest Party Songs Ever30 Greatest Party Songs EverArtist: Various Artists (Usually ships in 2 to 5 weeks)Click Here for more informationAwful Compilation CD - No Original Artists Drew's Famous Party Music is a joke. I wish I had read the reviews before I purchased this cd. In the past 3 weeks, I have probably ordered 8 or 9 compilation cd's looking for great music from the 70s, 80s and 90's for a party I am hosting. I read the reviews for the other cd's and they were great, but in my excitement about finding Whoomp there it is and Love Train, I didn't check the reviews for this cd. This CD is not at all what I thought it would be. Trust me, THIS IS NOT THE ONE, it's not even on the list. I was looking for Whoomp there it is, and especially Love Train by the Ojays. Not what I got. I excitedly listened to Whoomp, and I kept saying this doesn't sound right. Something sounds like its missing from the song. So I listened to Love Train, and immediately, I knew that it was not the Ojays singing. I realized that none of the original artists were singing. This is a terrible misrepresentation. I was so disappointed! Thank goodness I listened to the cd before I played it at the party. I would have been horrified. I wish I could give it less than one star and get a refund. Please, please, please DON'T waste your money.NOT ORIGINALS ?...DONT BOTHERIts quite simple, Ive been aDJ for 25 years and have listen to thousands of people and their reactions to anything but the originals............They notice and they talk about it. Especially when they are classic party songs....It would be like hearing a classic Elvis song....They would say "Thats not Elvis" by then its too late......a lasting impression. www.DJetc.com / NashvilleAwful FakeI agree with other reviewers. Don't waste your money. I should have listened to the samples. To hear more awful fakes, visit the producer's web site at drewsfamous.com. Listen to their selection of garbage before you make the purchase. more... mp3 music downloads Greatest Love SongsGreatest Love SongsArtist: Frank Sinatra (Usually ships in 24 hours)Click Here for more informationThe Sinatra who could more than convincingly offer that he had a crush on you is represented by this sweetly packaged 22-track collection. Culled mostly from the early Reprise years (with a four-cut sample of Capitol performances), Greatest Love Songs makes an airtight case for his work during the period. Often tender, occasionally enthusiastic, these selections skirt the bombast and self-parody the Chairman sometimes fell into on his own label. Popular classics like "Fly Me to the Moon" and "The Way You Look Tonight" are more than matched by keepers like the dramatically slowed Sinatra & Strings version of "Night and Day," the swinging dare of "Let's Fall in Love," and the elegiac 1961 take of "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You." Save for the thud of a studio-engineered posthumous duet with Celine Dion--an insult both to Sinatra and one of the most delicate of his signature songs, "All the Way"--this is an exemplar of the Valentine-themed album. --Rickey WrightGreatest Love SongsThis compilation is done very well. I like the song selections in the manner that are chosen, Especially "In the Blue of Evening", "Don't Take Your Love Away from Me","The Very Thought of You", "Come Rain or Come Shine", these are absolute gems. The booklet inside quotes Frank in a lot of his beliefs, The pictures are great as well, This is a great introduction into Frank Sinatra's love songs....not what I expectedI didn't really feel like some of the songs were really love songs. A lot of these songs I had not even heard before. Musical Treasure Of A LifetimeWith twenty-two greatest love songs of all-time interpreted by the greatest singing icon, the legendary, the one and only Mr. Frank Sinatra, you can never go wrong with this CD. It's a musical treasure of a lifetime. To quote what was written on the liner notes, "Frank Sinatra believed that an artist is as good as his material, and he considered himself to be among the luckiest people in the world to have been able to make a career out of what he loved to do - to interpret wonderful music." Indeed, his material in this CD is so wonderful and very impressive, songs penned and composed by famous songwriters, the likes of Glenn Miller/Mitchell Parish's "Moonlight Serenade," Gershwin Brothers' I've Got A Crush On You," Cole Porter's "Night And Day," "What Is This Thing Called Love," "Easy To Love" and "In The Still Of The Night," Sammy Cahn/Jim Van Heusen's "All The Way," Harold Arlen/Johnny Mercer's "Come Rain Or Come Shine," Ray Noble's "The Very Thought Of You," Jerome Kern/Dorothy Fields' "The Way You Look Tonight," Richard Rodgers/Lorenz Hart's "My Funny Valentine," Ned Washington/George Bassman's "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You," to mention some of the nicest songs in this CD. According to Frank Sinatra, "it takes a long time to heal a broken heart, he understands that playing one of his albums can help." I totally agree with him. One can just imagine the many wonders that music can do to us. Well, this is just one of his many bestseller CDs that I'd love to listen to. I could listen to Sinatra's music forever and enjoy every moment of it. The most remarkable tracks for me are the ones that were arranged by Nelson Riddle ("Moonlight Serenade," "I've Got A Crush On You," "The Way You Look Tonight,""You Brought A New Kind Of Love To Me," "My Funny Valentine" and "Like Someone In Love"); Johnny Mandel ("Easy To Love," "You And The Night And The Music," "Let's Fall In Love," "In The Still Of The Night") ; Quincy Jones with Count Basie Orchestra ("Fly Me To The Moon") and Don Costa ("Night And Day" and "Come Rain Or Come Shine"). This CD is a collector's item. I highly recommended it and will be a wonderful addition to your Frank Sinatra collection. more... mp3 music downloads |
